Join Solu for our annual Tisha B'av Chesed Projects – as we spread acts of Ahavat Chinam, selfless love, around our city.
We will focus on three different ways of giving dignity to our more vulnerable neighbors:
- Filling backpacks with school supplies for kids at Gads Hill Center
- Making toiletry kits for residents at Connections for the Homeless & Margaret's Village
- Packing high demand food for local community fridges
Please consider donating through our Wishlists:
The supplies donated will be used to pack these kits / bags on Tisha B'Av.

2. Toiletries List
In a rush? You can also make a monetary donation to the drive or send an Amazon gift card.

Back to School: The backpacks we pack will contain school supplies for underprivileged kids at Gads Hill Center, a youth enrichment center based in Pilsen that invests in kids through after school learning, STEM training, and mental health support. They help keep kids from the South and West Sides safe after school and on a path to graduate high school. Thanks to their interventions, they have an astounding 100% graduation rate. Many of these children cannot afford school supplies and would otherwise start school at a major disadvantage.
If you'd like to donate something, every bit helps -- a box of pencils is $2 on the wishlist.

Homeless Hygiene Support: Toiletries are a high demand item at shelters and food pantries. We will be replenishing the toiletry stocks of a couple of local shelters – Connections for the Homeless in Evanston, and Margaret's Village, a shelter for women and kids in Englewood. Margaret's Village recently received help from Solu after their kitchen flooded and lost power; Solu volunteers stepped in to pay for emergency meals. Now we have another chance to help this wonderful shelter, which relies heavily on outside support (only 40% of its budget is provided by the government).
Kol hakavod to Solu teen leader Abby Singer is organizing this project as part of her JUF "18 Under 18" impact award.
