A mom tells of having baby during brutal 3-month migrant journey: Reporter's notebook - ABC News

Many migrant and refugee families in Chicagoland are struggling with deep poverty, hunger, and lack of shelter. Caring for a new infant in these circumstances is incredibly challenging.

Solu volunteer Shaina Herring recently brought our attention to the dire needs of migrant mothers at her hospital's maternity ward, where she works as a midwife. She put out a call for baby clothes to help support these moms, who often struggle to meet their material needs.

That's where we come in. Our donations will help migrant and homeless moms delivering babies at St. Anthony Hospital in Lawndale. We'll assemble onesies, socks, burp clothes, etc. into a convenient gift bag for these mothers in need.

You can donate in two ways:

1. Drop Off Clothes:

New or *very gently* used infant clothing

Sizes: Newborn, 0-3 months, and 3–6 months

Please no stains or rips, or other signs of rough use. Ideally seeking clothes that could pass for "new" or "new-ish".

Drop off at Skokie Valley in blue bin near coat racks any time in Adar.

2. Buy Through our Amazon Wishlist

Items will be shipped to Solu's offices.

In a rush? You can also make a monetary donation or give an Amazon gift card to the drive.
