Solu Joins Chesed Chicago and NCSY
Pesach Food Distribution Event
This past Sunday, April 6th, Solu had the privilege of participating in a truly special event – the Pesach Food Distribution organized by Chesed Chicago and NCSY. We brought together 27 volunteers of all ages, from young children to adults, to help provide for those in need during this important time of year.
Before jumping into the hustle and bustle of the day, we gathered for a brief Torah learning session to set the tone for the day’s work. As we prepared for the seder, we reflected on the opening line of the Haggadah: "כָּל דִכְפִין יֵיתֵי וְיֵיכֹל" – "Whoever is hungry, let them come and eat." While we don’t usually have people knocking on our doors at the seder, this line reminds us that it's our responsibility to care for those in need. At the Chesed Chicago/NCSY event, we had the opportunity to practically fulfill this call, showing our volunteers firsthand how the mitzvah of giving can make a real difference.
We also learned from the Talmud’s concept of "circles of responsibility" (Bava Metzia 71a), which emphasizes the importance of prioritizing our giving to those closest to us, especially our local Jewish community. By volunteering at the event, we were able to put this lesson into action, ensuring that our fellow Jews could have a meaningful and joyful Pesach.
The pace of the day was fast, exciting, and filled with energy. Our volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that every recipient left with what they needed for a fulfilling holiday meal. One of the most memorable parts of the day was seeing the appreciation and gratitude from the families we served. It was incredibly heartwarming to know that our efforts were making a tangible difference in their lives. The joy and relief on their faces reminded us of the power of chesed and how small acts of kindness can have a profound impact.
A huge thank you goes out to all of the Tzedaka Circle participants who joined us for this event. You not only brought your enthusiasm and hard work, but you also took to heart the lessons we’ve been learning about the halachot (laws) of tzedaka (charity). Your dedication to putting those teachings into action is truly inspiring!
This event reminded us of the importance of coming together as a community, sharing our resources, and caring for those in need. The Pesach Food Distribution wasn’t just about delivering food; it was about delivering hope, compassion, and the joy of the holiday to those who needed it most. We are already looking forward to more opportunities to give back and make a difference, and we hope you’ll join us on future initiatives.
Chag Sameach, and thank you to everyone who contributed to this beautiful day of chesed!
