Solu’s Tisha B’Av Chesed Recap

This past Sunday, over 80 community members transformed the spirit of Tisha B’Av from a traditional day of sorrow into one of hope, dignity, and ahavat chinam. Our community gathered for an afternoon of hands-on chesed to help those in need.

2 Years of Comfort for Women & Children

Volunteers packed beautifully wrapped Comfort Kits for Margaret’s Village, a South Side shelter serving women and children facing homelessness. Each kit included towels, shower shoes, lotion, and a handwritten note of encouragement — a small but deeply personal gift for those beginning a vulnerable chapter.

Thanks to the outpouring of support, we didn’t just meet our goal — we doubled it, assembling two full years’ worth of kits. That’s two years of arrivals met with dignity and warmth.

80 Snack Packs for Love Fridges

In preparation for the launch of Hersh’s Fridge, our upcoming community fridge, volunteers also assembled 80 snack packs — filled with nourishing, grab-and-go items.
Three groups of volunteers delivered them to Love Fridges in neighboring communities, offering immediate support to those experiencing food insecurity across Chicago.

Chesed Home Deliveries

Six families volunteered to grocery shop and personally deliver food to local Jewish families struggling with poverty. For many, this one-on-one act of giving was an experience of real human connection, empathy, and compassion.

We’re so grateful to every person who donated, packed, delivered, or helped organize these efforts. Whether you brought a towel, delivered a snack, or wrote a heartfelt note, you’ve helped spread love during a time traditionally marked by destruction.
